Welcome to the Montgomery County Airport Association (MCAA) Web Site

MCAA is an organization committed to promoting the enjoyment and welfare of the Montgomery County Maryland (GAI) Airport. We promote the airport through a wide array of programs on general aviation, covering such topics as safety, currency skills, airspace and air traffic control, general aviation maintenance, and other subjects of interest to the flying community. MCAA also sponsors special events planned to bring together the airport community. All MCAA events are intended to promote friendship, aviation, and enjoyment of Montgomery County's public use airport.
Noise Abatement Brochure Available
Posted by: AdminXon Friday, January 29, 2010 - 09:38 AM
News Attention GAI Pilots and Visitors

Please review the new noise abatement brochure produced by the Montgomery County Revenue Authority (MCRA). The policy has not changed and reflects existing procedures published in the Airport/Facility Directory... what's new is the color map showing the noise sensitive areas surrounding the airport. The brochure offers helpful tips to pilots on how to fly safely and reduce your noise profile when departing GAI.

Copies of the brochure are available at the airport, or you can download a PDF by clicking here.

MCAA hosted a meeting at the airport on Monday, January 25 at which we distributed copies of the brochure to representatives of each of the resident flying clubs. We also showed an AOPA video titled "Flying Friendly." Airport manager John Luke and AOPA manager of airport policy John Collins were available to answer questions.

GAI Noise Abatement
Posted by: AdminXon Thursday, December 17, 2009 - 06:25 AM
News Happy Holidays, everyone, from your friends at MCAA. As those of you who got my email yesterday already know, we had to postpone last night's meeting because the new noise abatement brochures were unfortunately still at the print shop. A few hardy individuals met at the airport anyway to go over the latest draft of the brochure, and we do plan to try this again sometime in January. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, please abide by the noise abatement guidelines that are published in the FAA Airport/Facility Directory for GAI, which will be reflected in the brochure when available: When departing the airport using Runway 32, turn right to a heading of at least 340 degrees; and jets should avoid departing Runway 32 between 2300-0700.

Last night the MCAA board did manage to re-elect itself for another year of service to you. I'm pleased to announce that I (Meredith Saini) will serve as President of the association for another year. Bill Harral has agreed to serve as our Treasurer yet again, with Michael Nolan serving as Secretary.

We appreciate the generous support of time and effort by the dozen or so other individuals who attend our meetings and events and step up when the need arises. Thanks to everyone who helps to keep general aviation alive in Montgomery County.

Fall Meeting, GAI Updates
Posted by: AdminXon Friday, November 06, 2009 - 02:14 PM
News Greetings from GAI. I hope that you had a great summer and are enjoying the mostly clear, cool weather of early fall here in Maryland. There are a few exciting things going on around the airport that I'd like to share with you.

MCAA Membership Meeting - December 16

First, our next general meeting will be held here at the airport on Wednesday, December 16 at 7 p.m. This will be an important event and we hope you can attend. In addition to conducting MCAA's official board elections and providing an update on happenings at GAI, we will host a seminar on "Safe and Neighborly Traffic Pattern Operations." Attendees will receive a copy of our brand new noise abatement brochure, which includes an aerial photo of the airport and surrounding neighborhoods, and some tips on how to fly safely while also respecting our neighbors. Our airport manager John Luke has been working hard on getting this brochure published soon, hopefully before the meeting.

Wireless Internet Access

Wifi is finally alive, well and reliable at GAI! Free wireless internet is now available throughout the terminal building and soon will cover the ramp and hangar areas. MCAA would like to extend a huge thank-you to Congressional Flying Club and our airport manager, John Luke, for joining forces on beefing up the equipment so that everyone here can get online from anywhere at the airport.

Pilot Lounge Computers

MCAA would also like to thank John Luke and the Revenue Authority for fixing the computers in the pilot's lounge, with the help of several resident pilots. Both PCs are now up and running and connected to the internet, so pilots can log on to check the weather and file flight plans. If you experience any problems with the computers in the lounge, or if you experience any interruption in the wireless internet connectivity at the airport, please notify John Luke.

Aircraft Maintenance Services at GAI

Montgomery Aviation is no longer providing maintenance services at GAI. DH Aviation (Dave Hopkins) has taken over the operation. To schedule service or for more information contact Dave at 301-527-1001 or visit his website at http://www.dh-aviationmaint.com.

Events Yes, it's a rainy Friday night here in Washington DC but not to fear... the 2009 GAI Open House is happening tomorrow! The aircraft that will be on static display are already on the ramp for the night and our crew of volunteers is ready to get things going on time tomorrow at 11 a.m. We hope to see you there! And with any luck, the forecast will hold so that airplane rides can occur.

Annual Picnic & Open House - Saturday 9/12
Posted by: AdminXon Friday, August 21, 2009 - 05:05 PM
Events It's that time of year again... for pilots, friends, neighbors and family to reunite at the Montgomery County Airpark. Please join us on Saturday, September 12 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for this special annual event, sponsored by MCAA and our resident flying clubs. As always there will be free food and beverages, music, aircraft displays and fly-bys, and plenty of activities for the kids including the ever popular paper airplane contest.

We're also very excited to have History Flight as our special guest this year. Members of this Florida based not-for-profit aviation organization will be bringing their carefully restored and maintained B25 and T6 aircraft for display and, weather permitting, rides. For more information on History Flight and their vintage aircraft visit www.historyflight.com.

Back by popular demand is the Waco biplane flown by former airline pilot John Corradi, of Culpeper, VA. For more information on John and his plane visit www.blueridgebiplanes.com.

We hope to see you on September 12!
