Welcome to the Montgomery County Airport Association (MCAA) Web Site

MCAA is an organization committed to promoting the enjoyment and welfare of the Montgomery County Maryland (GAI) Airport. We promote the airport through a wide array of programs on general aviation, covering such topics as safety, currency skills, airspace and air traffic control, general aviation maintenance, and other subjects of interest to the flying community. MCAA also sponsors special events planned to bring together the airport community. All MCAA events are intended to promote friendship, aviation, and enjoyment of Montgomery County's public use airport.
Speaker Event July 22: ADS-B and You!
Posted by: AdminXon Tuesday, June 30, 2009 - 06:34 AM
Events Please join us on Wednesday, July 22 at the airpark for a special event. Your MCAA president, Meredith Saini, and a subject matter expert from the FAA will offer a brief presentation on the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen), which encompasses a technology called Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B).

We know many of you probably have heard about NextGen and ADS-B but are wondering what impact these programs will have upon your flying here in the Washington, D.C. area. The goal of the presentation is to provide our local pilots with an overview of NextGen and ADS-B and answer any questions that you might have.

Stay tuned for more details on time and location, but meanwhile, please visit the FAA's website for background information on NextGen and ADS-B.

Golf Tournament A Success!
Posted by: AdminXon Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 06:45 AM
News Your MCAA raised more than $5,000 in this year's annual Golf Tournament, co-sponsored by the Montgomery County Revenue Authority. The event, held at the county's Laytonsville course on Friday, May 8, was organized by board members Tom Grass and Tom Shioutakon and coordinated by airport manager John Luke. There were 33 golfers and a host of hole sponsors.

Sources close to the event said that the foursome representing the Montgomery County Police department won the tournament with 11 under par.

Some of you may have noticed the flat-screen TV in the airport lobby. The MCAA was able to purchase this item for the enjoyment of airport patrons and visitors largely due to the success of the 2008 golf tournament. Your MCAA board of directors hopes to bring similar improvements your way this year.

Stay tuned for details on the annual Airpark Picnic!

2009 Spring Golf Tournament May 8
Posted by: AdminXon Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 07:17 AM
Events The MCAA and the Montgomery County Revenue Authority are excited to announce our third annual Spring Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Laytonsville Golf Course.

Tee times are available between 12-2 p.m. but they are going fast! Door prizes, free range balls and golf cart are included in the $100 per person entrance fee. Hole sponsors are welcome!

Soft drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to the hungry players at the conclusion of the tournament, which last year raised more than $4,000 to help support airpark improvement and community outreach activities such as:

* A $500 aviation scholarship that will allow a local child to launch his or her dream of becoming a pilot
* Annual fall picnic, which attracts hundreds of area residents and aviation enthusiasts
* Terminal improvements including our new LCD TV in the lobby!
* Public awareness of the economic importance of the airpark to the community
* And so much more!

To sign up, please contact Tom Grass, the event coordinator at (240) 793-4931. Forms and flyers are available at the airport.

Important Announcement on Airport Safety
Posted by: AdminXon Monday, March 16, 2009 - 10:48 AM
News The Montgomery County Airport Association (MCAA) is aware of the incident that occurred in Gaithersburg, Maryland on Sunday, March 15, involving the crash of a Cirrus SR22 aircraft shortly after takeoff from the airpark. We ask that our members, friends, and neighbors stand back and allow the local authorities and the National Transportation Safety Board to do their work in determining the cause of the incident. We are thankful that the pilot walked away unharmed and that no persons on the ground were injured.

MCAA is, however, extremely disappointed by the uninformed and unsubstantiated comments made by at least one local resident to the media regarding the conduct of operations at the airpark. Our board of directors (all of whom are active pilots, many of us with commercial ratings) continues to stand ready to speak with the media and any other individuals who would like accurate information on the hundreds of safe, orderly aircraft operations that occur at the airpark each week. You may contact us via email at president@mcaa-md.org.

Thank you for your cooperation.
