|
Posted by: AdminXon Friday, April 04, 2008 - 08:58 AM |
|
Attention all Tiger Woods wannabees: The MCAA and the Montgomery County Revenue Authority are excited to announce our second annual Spring Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Laytonsville Golf Course.
We're planning a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, with cash prizes, free range balls and golf cart included in the $100 per person entrance fee. Hole sponsors are welcome!
Free soft drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to the hungry players at the conclusion of the tournament, which last year raised more than $4,000 to help support airpark improvement and community outreach activities such as:
- Aviation scholarship that will allow a local child to launch his or her dream of becoming a pilot
- Annual fall picnic, which attracts hundreds of area residents and aviation enthusiasts
- Terminal improvements
- Public awareness of the economic importance of the airpark to the community
- And so much more!
To sign up, please contact Tom Grass, the event coordinator at (240) 793-4931.
Forms and flyers are available at the airport, or click here to download it (Adobe PDF).
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Updates: Airport Manager Update
|
Posted by: AdminXon Tuesday, April 01, 2008 - 12:00 AM |
|
Fast approaching is my 4th anniversary as Airport Manager at GAI. From a personal perspective, these four years have gone by far too fast, but as the saying goes, time flys! But in this short span I hope that you, the users, have seen some progress in the physical layout of the facility as well as improvements in the approaches, weather reporting and other similar aspects of airport operations.
I will comment below on specific areas of airport operations that affect all of us and always feel free to give me all-important feedback either by stopping by my office on the first floor of the terminal building or by telephone or e-mail.

Making Lemonade: How To Get the Most Out of Your ADIZ Flights
|
Posted by: AdminXon Tuesday, October 23, 2007 - 07:58 PM |
|
By now I think most of us have come to begrudgingly accept that the DC ADIZ is here to stay. We've said our peace to those who could potentially care and now we have to live with it. But it doesn't mean flying as we know it has to end! In fact, things may have actually gotten a little better recently. Or maybe not.
To get the skinny on where things stand in our fine flying land, MCAA has invited representatives from the Potomac Tracon and Lockheed Martin Flight Services to discuss the current state of affairs and offer tips on how we as pilots can make the best of what we have to work with.
Please join us at the Montgomery Aviation hangar at GAI on Wednesday, November 7 at 7 p.m. for an open discussion about ADIZ flight plans, FSS operations, and ATC services.
Light refreshments will be provided by MCAA. We hope that if you attend you will consider joining MCAA or renewing your annual membership for just $20. This small contribution goes a long way toward funding these and other activities, which we organize to help promote positive airport relations and pilot education.
PS: Check out the photo album from the fall picnic!

Annual Picnic and Open House Is Just a Few Weeks Away!
|
Posted by: mtsainion Sunday, August 19, 2007 - 12:21 PM |
|
Mark your calendars and plan to join your friends and neighbors at the airpark on Saturday, September 15 for MCAA's annual picnic and open house!
The fun begins at 11 a.m. with free food hot off the grill, cold soft drinks, and the sweet sound of airplane engines humming overhead. There will be plenty of exciting aircraft on display, including a brand-new Cirrus SR22, one of the hottest personal planes on the market today. For those of you who like to take your flying lower and slower, there will also be several light sport aircraft available for you to check out. Representatives from the airport's resident flying clubs, including many flight instructors, will be out and about if you want to learn more about joining a club and taking flying lessons. And of course Montgomery Aviation will be open for business and available to provide more information about the products and services they have to offer.
If you're bringing the kids, they'll be plenty of entertainment for them including a paper airplane making contest, moon bounce, and a face painter! Children under 18 will also be eligible for free introductory flights sponsored by experienced local pilots!
Not a pilot but just want to learn more about what's happening at the airpark? Airport Manager John Luke, of the Montgomery County Revenue Authority, will be our Master of Ceremonies and available to discuss airport operations. Members of the MCAA Board of Directors, including co-presidents Meredith Saini and Steve Inkellis, will be wandering around in our red logo polo shirts to greet you.
Be sure to check out Montgomery County's traffic watch airplane, a twin-engine Cessna Skymaster, outfitted with special cameras and equipment that give operators the ability to actually change the timing of traffic lights on the county's roads during rush hour! Now that's an airport service we all can be thankful for!
Of course there are many other ways in which the airport supports the community. Every year, dozens of sick people and their family members receive free air transportation from Montgomery County Airpark to places where they undergo life-saving medical treatments. Pilots who volunteer for the Angel Flight network spend their own time and money to provide these flights, which needy patients might not otherwise be able to afford. Several Angel Flight pilots, including MCAA's own Steve Inkellis, will be at the picnic and happy to provide you with more information about this incredible program.
With so much to see, do and learn, this year's picnic is shaping up to be another fun and exciting one! So please join us. The airpark is located near the intersection of Route 124 and Airpark Road in Gaithersburg, Maryland. From Interstate 270, take Shady Grove Road eastbound until it turns into Airpark Road, which ends at the airport parking lot. You can't miss us! See you there!
* Food and beverages are provided to all guests free of charge by the Montgomery County Airport Association.
