The 2009 Picnic IS ON!
Posted by: AdminXon Friday, September 11, 2009 - 08:04 PM
Events Yes, it's a rainy Friday night here in Washington DC but not to fear... the 2009 GAI Open House is happening tomorrow! The aircraft that will be on static display are already on the ramp for the night and our crew of volunteers is ready to get things going on time tomorrow at 11 a.m. We hope to see you there! And with any luck, the forecast will hold so that airplane rides can occur.

Annual Picnic & Open House - Saturday 9/12
Posted by: AdminXon Friday, August 21, 2009 - 05:05 PM
Events It's that time of year again... for pilots, friends, neighbors and family to reunite at the Montgomery County Airpark. Please join us on Saturday, September 12 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for this special annual event, sponsored by MCAA and our resident flying clubs. As always there will be free food and beverages, music, aircraft displays and fly-bys, and plenty of activities for the kids including the ever popular paper airplane contest.

We're also very excited to have History Flight as our special guest this year. Members of this Florida based not-for-profit aviation organization will be bringing their carefully restored and maintained B25 and T6 aircraft for display and, weather permitting, rides. For more information on History Flight and their vintage aircraft visit www.historyflight.com.

Back by popular demand is the Waco biplane flown by former airline pilot John Corradi, of Culpeper, VA. For more information on John and his plane visit www.blueridgebiplanes.com.

We hope to see you on September 12!

Landing Contest This Saturday Aug 8
Posted by: AdminXon Tuesday, August 04, 2009 - 07:11 AM
Events It's baaaaack... the hard workin', tire greasin', trash talkin', MCAA Spot Landing Contest! All pilots are welcome (students are too, if you bring your instructor along for the ride) and it only costs $10 to play. The rules are simple: Stabilized approaches that terminate with smooth landings on the target earn the most points. The pilot who does this the best wins the pot. Landings are scored by an "esteemed" panel of judges (I guess that depends on who you ask) who sit by the runway making rude gestures. Just kidding. The point of this event is to promote traffic pattern safety, and to have a great time doing it.

If you're interested, meet us in the GAI terminal building classroom at 9 a.m. Bring your game face and your best stick and rudder skills. See you then.

Speaker Event July 22: ADS-B and You!
Posted by: AdminXon Tuesday, June 30, 2009 - 06:34 AM
Events Please join us on Wednesday, July 22 at the airpark for a special event. Your MCAA president, Meredith Saini, and a subject matter expert from the FAA will offer a brief presentation on the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen), which encompasses a technology called Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B). We know many of you probably have heard about NextGen and ADS-B but are wondering what impact these programs will have upon your flying here in the Washington, D.C. area. The goal of the presentation is to provide our local pilots with an overview of NextGen and ADS-B and answer any questions that you might have. UPDATE 7/21 -- The presentation will be held in the main classroom at 7:30 p.m.

2009 Spring Golf Tournament May 8
Posted by: AdminXon Saturday, April 25, 2009 - 07:17 AM
Events The MCAA and the Montgomery County Revenue Authority are excited to announce our third annual Spring Golf Tournament, scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Laytonsville Golf Course.

Tee times are available between 12-2 p.m. but they are going fast! Door prizes, free range balls and golf cart are included in the $100 per person entrance fee. Hole sponsors are welcome!

Soft drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to the hungry players at the conclusion of the tournament, which last year raised more than $4,000 to help support airpark improvement and community outreach activities such as:

* A $500 aviation scholarship that will allow a local child to launch his or her dream of becoming a pilot
* Annual fall picnic, which attracts hundreds of area residents and aviation enthusiasts
* Terminal improvements including our new LCD TV in the lobby!
* Public awareness of the economic importance of the airpark to the community
* And so much more!

To sign up, please contact Tom Grass, the event coordinator at (240) 793-4931. Forms and flyers are available at the airport.
